The latest kit and accessories

Our photographer, Dan Du Cros, visited The Photography Show at The NEC where the latest cameras, bags, clothing and accessories were being showcased.
Fujifilm GFX 50S and Hasselblad X1D
I was able to get my hands on the new Fujifilm GFX 50S camera which has just launched. This is an interesting little camera as it’s basically a mirrorless medium format camera body with a 51mp integrated digital back – and while the physical chip size is smaller than that of say the Phase One IQ series, it’s still double the size of a full frame 35mm chip. The real head-turner is the price point, which at £6,200 is much nearer the price of a high-end 35mm SLR, as opposed to the £25k+ cost of the Phase One kit. It handled really well, being not much bigger than a Canon 5DSR. The flippable rear screen is a nice touch too.
Another camera in the same vein was the Hasselblad X1D, again a mirrorless medium format camera. This model was very compact, but with all the image quality that is expected of the medium format medium. A key selling point of this model was its flash sync speed of 1/2000 sec, thanks to each lens containing its own integral leaf-type shutter. I can see this camera becoming really popular with location fashion photography, thanks to its 35mm-like handling, combined with the image quality and dynamic range of a medium format chip.
